What is meant by the statement "Pressure of gas is 13.6 cm of Hg?"

its weird when pressure is related to lenght ! .aint it ? ..but actually the value by which Mercury rises while calculating pressure of any gas ..gives the direct measure of how much pressure will be..hence we can use the column width as pressure measure
