First off, Nakshatras are groupings of 27 asterisms/star groups along the sun’s path (ecliptic) as we witness it here on earth. There are 27 Nakshatras because there are 27 sunrises between the moon completing a full revolution through the cosmos. The moon actually goes 360 degrees in 27.321 days.

Each Nakshatra is 13 degrees 20 minutes of arc so the sun enters a different Nakshatra roughly every 13 days. For example, today the sun is the nakshatra Purva Bhadrapada, which is located in the Pegasus constellation (between Aquarius and Pisces). The sun will be entering the nakshatra Uttara Bhadrapada around March 19th.
