What is meant by the term frequency of an alternating current what is its value in india? Why is an alternating current considered to be advantages over direct current for long range transmission of electric energy?

Frequency is the rate at which the current changes its direction..

It's value in India is 50Hz..

Ac current is considered to be advantageous over dc current to step up or step down the voltage in transmission line wires so as to avoid insulation difficulties and to reduce the loss of heat...

Alternating current means its polarity (direction of flow of current ) changes alternately from +ve to -ve and -ve to +ve.

  Frequency means the number of times the signal (current/voltage) reaches its maximum or minimum in one second.

   In India the frequency is 50 Hz.

   AC is an advantage for transmission over long distances as the power losses due to heat dissipation in the wires, is less for AC than DC.  AC is safer than DC for very high Voltages.  Also, it is easier to generate very high voltages in AC than in DC. The cost of transmission for AC is also less than DC.  It is easier to generate AC than DC.  Also it is easier to step up voltages in AC than in DC.
