Strong acids dissociate fully in water to produce H+ ions.

  • This means one mole of hydrochloric acid (HCl) molecule, would all ‘split’ to form one mole of H+ ions and one mole of Cl– ions.
  • They have low ph value.

Weak acids do not fully dissociate.

  • Example - Ethanoic acid (CH3COOH) , it does not dissociate.
  • They have high ph value.
