 \fbox{Tracheal\:Respiration\:!!}

In all insects (e.g., cockroach, grasshopper, etc.), centipedes, millipede and some spiders, respiratory organs are highly branched air tubes, called Trachea.

These Teaches are connected to atmosphere by minute respiratory openings called spiracles or stigmata.

In Cockroach, there are 10 pairs of spiracles : 2 pairs in thorax and 8 pairs in abdomen.

Each spiracle leads into a chamber, called atrium, from which main trachea arises. Main trachea divides and redivides to form fine network called Tracheal intercom.

The finest Branches of this intercom are tracheoles which directly end into the body cells. Terminal part of the tracheoles are filled with a tracheolar fluid.

So in these animals, Oxygen goes directly into the body cells and blood had no role in transportation of gases. It is because the blood of these animals is colourless, has no haemoglobin and is called Haemolymph.
