Unbalanced forces can be defined as follows:

"When the resultant of all the forces acting on a body is not zero, these forces are called unbalanced forces."

Let us consider the game of tug-of-war. When the forces exerted by both the teams are equal, then the rope does not move. But, if the force applied by a team (say team A), is greater than that applied by the other team (say team B), then the rope as well as members of the weaker team (team B) will be pulled towards team A. Thus, we see that unbalanced forces produce motion in any stationary body.

The unbalanced forces can,

* set a stationary body in motion,

* set a moving body at rest.

* change the direction of motion.

Explanation:  It is basically where there are two forces which is acting in their opposite direction. It was not have an equal magnitude or size.
