Universal Adult Franchise(UAF) is also referred to as Universal suffrage. It means that all adults above the age of 18 years have the legal right to vote  for their representatives besides those who are disqualified because of the laws of their country.  Universal suffrage was first meant to refer only to male suffrage. Once women gained the right to vote all around the world, the term applied to all adults. Indians were granted the rights to Universal Adult Franchise irrespective of any discrimination on the basis of caste, colour, creed, religion, sex, place of birth and so on.
