VAlency is the number of electrons an atom loses, gains or shares with other atoms so as to complete the shell.

Valence electron is the total number of electrons present in the outermost shell of an atom. Ex- Nitrogen(7)=2,5.

Valency of nitrogen is 3 as it needs 3 more electrons, whereas its valence electrons is 5.
