✯  what is meant by water of crystallization?

some salts contain fixed amount of water molecules attached to them this is known to be water of crystallization. it gives color to particular salt.

✯ describing an activity to show that blue crystal of CuSO4 contain water of crystallization.

☆ take a china dish.
☆ heat some hydrous crystals of CuSO4. { it would be blue in color as it has water of crystallization }
☆ you will see that crystals of CuSO4 turn white in color.
☆ this tells us that CuSO4 crystals do not have water of crystallization anymore.
☆ but when you keep these crystals in humid place they will again turn blue in color! { absorbing the water present around it }

you can see equation over here:

CuSO4. 5H2O
⇒ CuSO4 + 5H2O.
