There are many basic physical characteristics of a substance which define the nature of that substance and weight is one of the most important physical characteristics of a substance.

The weight is actually the amount the gravitational pull applied on a substance due to the mass of that substance.

The value of the weight is dependent on the value of the gravitational acceleration or 'g'.And the value of the g is variable according to the locations on our planet. That's why the value of the weight is also variable.
