The horizontal movement of air from high pressure area to low pressure area is called wind .

Winds that blow all the time in the same areas of the world are called Permanent winds or Planetary winds .

 \bf \underline{There  \: are \:  three \:  types \:  of \:  planetary \: winds}\bf\underline{ or \: permanent \: winds \:  are  \: :-}

 \bf \circ \: {The \:  Trade \:  Winds \:↓ }

These winds blow from sub - tropical high pressure belt to equatorial low pressure belt .

 \bf \circ \: {The \:  Westerlies \: ↓ }

These winds blow from sub - tropical high pressure belt to sub - polar low pressure belt.

 \bf \circ \: {The \:  Polar  \: Winds\: ↓ }

These winds blow from polar high pressure belt to sub - polar low pressure belt .

 \bf \underline{2.) \:  Periodic  \: winds \: :-}

Periodic winds are the winds which blow at a particular period of the day or season of the year . For example :- Land and Sea breezes , Monsoon winds etc .

 \bf \underline{3.) \:   Local  \: winds \: :-}

Local winds are the winds blowing in a a particular location due to specific pressure conditions . For example :- Loo , a hot , dry and dusty wind blows over Northern India and Pakistan in May and June .

 \bf \underline{4.) \: Variable     \: winds \: :-}

The winds which are are not regular and are of short duration are called variable winds . For example :- Cyclones and Anticyclones .
