The meaning of defection in politics is the following:

1. It means stepping out of a politician from one body to a different party for some personal interest. It means switching party resolution from the party on which the leader got elected to another party.

2. This defection takes place when a government,  after having been chosen from a particular body neglects it and meets in opposite parties.

3. To prevent the elected MLA’s and MP’s from switching parties new amendments were made in the constitution. According to the bill, if anyone switches from any party he or she will lose its seat in the parliament.

Defection is an act of changing party allegiance from the party on which a person got elected (to a Legislative body) to a different party. Earlier it has been an important cause for the formation as well as fall of government. MLAs and MPs were indulging in defection in order to become ministers or for cash rewards.
