One egg get matured and is released by one of the ovaries once in about 28 to 30 days

During this period, the walls of the uterus becomes thick so as to receive fertilised eggs

In case it is fertilised, begins to mature. This results in pregnancy.

But if the fertilisation fails , to take place or the ovum is unfertilized, the ovum or the released eggs and the thickened lining along with the blood vessels are shed off. This causes bleeding in women. This is called menstruation. It occurs 2 to 8 days once in every month
