Transpiration is the reason the plant absorbs water from soil (as well as minerals because they are dissolved in water ). As water is lost from the plant due to different conditions, the plant absorbs water from the soil by transpiration pull through xylem vessels. It happens due to attraction of water molecules to each other in upward direction.
