During meiosis , the amount of DNA gets reduce to half.
i.e. if the cell has 4C amount of DNA then after Meiosis the cells gets only half of the DNA (2C).
.
Hence reductional division.
.
.
During mitosis,
.
Amount of DNA remains the same before and after the division.
.
Therefore it is known as equational division.
