Melanin is a pigment present in the hair. It is responsible for maintaining the colour of the hair.

--due to more presence of melanin, some people are dark skinned.
--and some people are light skinned due to less or normal amount of melanin in their skin.
--melanin is produced by special cells which are known as melanocytes.
--USES OF MELANIN:

1.Melanin is an effective absorber of light-it is able to scatter over 99.9% of absorbed UV radiation.
2.melanin protects skin cells from UVB radiation damage because of its scattering property of light.
3.it helps in reducing the risk of cancer.
