What is menstruation ? What is menopause ?
Answers
Answer: Menstruation is the process of shedding uterine endometrial lining along with blood. Menopause is the cessation of menstruation.
Explanation: Menstruation occurs in every female after attaining puberty. On every 14th day of her menstrual cycle, the uterine endometrium sheds along with the ova (secondary oocyte) from the body if fertilization doesn't occur within 24-48 hours of menstruation. This occurs along with endometrial tissue and blood after the progesterone is suddenly withdrawn. The leftover part then forms the corpus luteum.
Menopause occurs in females by the age of 50-55 years when the amount of estrogen reduces in their body and there's no ovulation anymore. The uterine endometrium becomes thin and there's no longer a menstrual cycle every month. This also leads to weak bones, osteoporosis, vaginal atrophy, hot flashes and an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases.
