Hey,

Uterus prepares itself every month to recieve a fertilised egg, since the ovary release one egg every month. Thus its lining become thick and spongy. If the fertilisation doesn't take place in egg, the lining breaks and comes out through the vagina as blood and mucous. This cycle is known as menstruation cycle. Menstruation is also known as period. It takes place every month and usually last for 2 to 7 days. The menstruation cycle begins in females at the age of 11-13 years and goes till the age of 45-50 years.
