Meristematic tissues are types of plant tissue. The growth of plant occurs only in certain areas. This is because the dividing tissues, also known as Meristematic tissues. They are classified into three types - apical, lateral and intercalary and are present only in the root tip, shot tip, girth of stem and at the base of leaves and internodes in a plant.
They divide throughout the life of a plant, unlike that of an animal. That's the reason why if we cut any branch (not the root) in a tree, it grows out after a certain period of time.
