Meristematic tissue is found in plants. This tissue have the power to divide and redivide for growth of plants. They divide throughout the life. These tissues are very active in performing plants work. They are active because of high amount of cytoplasm. It's cell walls are cytoplasmic.

There are 3 types of Meristematic tissue-

  • Apical Meristem.

  • Lateral Meristem.

  • Intercalary Meristem.

  • Apical Meristem is responsible for growth of plant from root tip.

  • It is also known as root apex.

  • Lateral Meristem is responsible for the lateral growth of plants. It allow plants to grow up.

  • It is located around the plant stem.

  • Intercalary Meristem is an area of mature tissue.

  • It occurs in monocot type plants in internodes (at the base.)
