Meristematic tissue or meristems, as they are also called are tissues that have the ability to enlarge, stretch and differentiate into other types of cellsas they mature. The cells of this tissue are generally young and immature, with the power of continuous division.

1) apical meristem= these are located on the tips of roots and stems and help in the longitudinal growth of root and shoot system

2)lateral meristem=they are present on the lateral sides of stem and root of plant . these are helpful in increasing the thickness of plants

3)Intercalary meristem=these are located at the internodes or the base of leaves they are responsible for the growth of leaves and buds
