Explanation:

here are three primary meristems: the protoderm, which will become the epidermis; the ground meristem, which will form the ground tissues comprising parenchyma, collenchyma, and sclerenchyma cells; and the procambium, which will become the vascular tissues (xylem and phloem).

✪Meristematic tissue is also called dividing or growing tissue. Cells of meristematic tissues divide continuously. These cells help in increasing the length & girth of plant. Each cell has dense cytoplasm & large nucleus. They do not consist of vacuoles. They divide & grow repeatedly.

Types / Kinds of meristematic tissue :

There are three types of meristematic tissue

i) Apical Meristem

• It is present at the growing tips of root & stem.

• Root & shoot Apical Meristem brings about elongation of root and shoot.

• So, there is increase in height & called primary growth.

 \

ii) Lateral meristem

• This is present on lateral side and help in increasing the girth of stem.

• So, increase in girth is called secondary growth.

 \

iii) Intercalary meristem

• It is located at the base of leaves or internodes.

• It helps in growth of leaves & elongation of internodes.

 \

Functions

 \

• Meristematic tissue is the parent tissue, which helps in formation of other tissues.

• It is flexible in nature

• It takes part in growth and in repair.

• It helps to produce new leaves, flowers, stem, branches, fruits, etc.
