Meristematic tissue or meristems, as they are also called are tissues that have the ability to enlarge, stretch and differentiate into other types of cells as they mature. The cells of this tissue are generally young and immature, with the power of continuous division. Meristematic cells are all living cells.

Meristematic tissue is the type of tissue which can enlarge, stretch and differentiate in to various types of cell based on maturity.
EXPLANATION:
On the basis of 'origin and development', the meristems are divided in to three types "promeristem" or "priordial meristem", primary meristem secondary meristem. Based on their position, they are classified as 'apical meristem', 'intercalary meristem' and 'lateral meristem'.
Based on their function, they are classified as 'protoderm', 'procambium' and 'ground meristem'. Based on planes of division, they are classified as Mass meristem, rib meristem and plate meristem. These tissues are found on the apices of the root and shoot.
