Answer:

composite fish culture

  • in this method a variety of i.e. 5 to 6 species of fishes are cultured with in the fish pond .
  • fishes are chosen on the basis of their different food habits and do not comptete with each other for food.

i.e. rohu (surface feeder)

catla ( middle feeder)

mugal (bottom feeder)

Merits:

(a) We can have desired type and quantity of fish at will.

(b)Through fish culture we get fish meat which is highly nutritive food containing vitamins, useful fat and most easily digestible protein.

(c)Through properly improved fish culture techniques large amount of fish can be obtained from small area.

(d) Food problems can be solved to some extent.

Demerits : Through fish culture the number of selectively cultured fish are increasing while the less economical fish are being discarded which is causing a threat to biodiversity and fish gene bank.

Varieties

  • Indegenous - Rohu, Catla,Mrigal
  • Exotic - Common cart, silver cart, Grass cart
