Metabolism is used to describe all the chemical reactions involved in maintaining the living state of cell and the organism.

Metabolism is also described as the process where your body converts what you drink and eat into energy. Infact your body gets all its energy through your body's metabolism.

Metabolism is the sum of all the biochemical reactions taking place in our body which involve uptake or release of energy.

Metabolism is of two types:

1. Catabolism: Breakdown of biomolecules in the body to release energy.

For example: Respiration - Breakdown of glucose

2. Anabolism: Synthesis of biomolecules by the consumption of energy.

For example: Photosynthesis - Synthesis of food by the plants.
