metal- any of several chemical elements that are usually shiny solids that conduct heat or electricity and can be formed into sheets .

example- sodium, potassium, magnesium etc.

non metal- any of several chemical elements that are not shiny , that doesn't conduct heat or electricity and cannot be formed into sheets.

and simply we can say that lacks metallic property.

example- chlorine,bromine,iodine etc

Non-metals: They are non-lusturous and are not shiny. They are soft and non-sonorous. They have low melting and boiling points.

Eg: Carbon , nitrogen , etc.
