Metamorphic Rocks:

  • Metamorphic rocks are created through the process of metamorphism where the existing rocks (sedimentary rocks) get transformed into metamorphic rocks due to heat, or pressure.
  • They are a part of 12% of the earth’s surface or on places where two tectonic plates meet. They are also formed due to the influence of magma, which is a rich mineral fluid.
  • The examples of metamorphic rocks include kyanite, garnet, sillimanite, micas, quartz etc. They can endure high temperatures.
