a figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is not literally applicable.

Examples of dead metaphors include: “raining cats and dogs,” “throw the baby out with the bathwater,” and “heart of gold.” With a good, livingmetaphor, you get that fun moment of thinking about what it would look like if Elvis were actually singing to a hound dog (for example).

here is your answer..

A metaphor is a figure of speech that describes an object or action in a way that isn’t literally true, but helps explain an idea or make a comparison

Examples:

1. Time is a thief

This metaphor illustrates the point that time seems to pass quickly and our lives flash by.
____________________

2. He is the apple of my eye.

It doesn't mean that the person is an apple in an eye. The apple is someone held dear.
____________________

3. She broke my heart.

Your heart isn't literally broken; you're just feeling hurt and sad.
____________________

4. You light up my life.

No one can provide physical light. This expression is simply saying that someone brings them joy.
____________________

5. She was fishing for complements.

The woman isn't literally casting a lure to hook compliments out of the ocean. Rather, it's a dead metaphor used to signify a desire for accolades.
