Well..i'll give u the basic concept of metaphor along with an example from one of Shakespear's poems, 'Seven Ages'..along with the explanation. And if u need anything more regarding the same..lemme know in the comments section:

Metaphor is a poetic device which is used to make indirect comparison between two things. Metaphors can be used in a whole paragraph or one single line.

Eg: All the world's a stage                                     (1)
And all the men and women merely players;  (2)
They have their exits and their entrances;      (3)
And one man in his time plays many parts.    (4)

Explanation:
In the (1)first line, the world is called a stage. Therefore, there is an indirect comparison between 'world' and 'stage'. And in (2)second line, 'men and women' are compared with 'players'. 'Exits' and 'entrances' symbolize death and birth of human beings, respectively. And, 'one man in his time' means 'one man during his livelihood'. Therefore, in the whole paragraph there are indirect comparisons made. So, metaphor is the poetic device here.

...hope you find this answer helpful :)..if u need any extra info..lemme know in the comments section. And plz drop a feedback :) if u can.
