Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employement Generation Act or MGNREGA is and act passed by the parliament in 2005. This act:

1. Guarantees 100 days of employement per year to all those who are able to and in need of work in almost 625 districts of India.

2. If the government is unable to do the above, then they will provide an unemployement allowance.

3. Preferance for employement will be given to work which allows for more land to be used for agriculture.
