Mid-day meal scheme is a nutritional program initiated by the government and is intended to provide proper food  to the children who are attending school as any unfed or hungry child is not able to study properly which can greatly affect their school attendance and academic performance.

Some of the important objectives of Mid-day Meal Scheme:-

• Encourage school children from disadvantaged and backward areas to attend school regularly and improve academic performance.
• Ensuring nutritional support for children in the drought affected areas of the country.
• Providing proper nutritional endowments to school children from standard 1-8 in government schools and EGS and AIE centers.
