Consider this question:

 {x}^{2} + 8x \: + 15

In this question we cannot directly factorise the given expression as it is a trinomial. Even if we use the grouping method, one term will be left out.

So we use the mid term splitting/breaking method.

We can use MTS if the question is in the form:

 {x}^{2} + \: px + q

There can also be a coefficient before the 1st term but that will not create a problem in factorisation.

The process is as follows :

1: For factorising we first find two numbers a and b such that a+b = p and ab = q.

Clearly, those numbers are 5 and 3.

2: Now we break the middle term..

 {x }^{2} + 5x + 3x + 15

3:Now we group and factorise as in any other question...

=x(x+5)+3(x+5)

=(x+5)(x+3)

If you don't get the process the first try, Practice and practice. You will slowly get it.

Hope it helped..
