A distinct layer between two liquids will not form when you have a solution that is labeled miscible. When a distinct layer does form in a mixed solution, this is called immiscibility. For example, a type of immiscibleliquid is oil and water.

For example oil and water they cannot be mixed so immiscible
oxalic acid can be mixed and they are missible liquids
