Answer :-

Mitochondria is defined as the powerhouse of a cell. It acts as the factory of A.T.P. (Adenosine Tri-Phosphate).

It works mainly to supply energy for the completion of the metabolic activities of the cell.

Composition :-

  • Protein - (60-70) percent

  • Lipid - (25-30) percent

  • RNA - (5-7) percent

  • DNA- Very less (Trace amount)

  • Minerals - Calcium (Ca) , Magnesium (Mg) , Phosphate (Po4)

Extra Information :-

  • The maximum number of mitochondria are found in the "flight muscle cells" of insects.

  • The minimum number of mitochondria are found in the organisms- "Microstoria" and "Tryposoma".

  • The Outer Membrane of mitochondria is selectively permeable (permeable to just some metabolites).
