Information about Mitochondria are as follows:-

➨ Mitochondria is the power house of the cell.

➨ It is sausage shaped with a diameter of 0.2-1 micro-meter.

➨ Each mitochondrion is a double membrane bound structure which has a outer and inner Membrane.

➨ The lumen is divided into two distinct aqueous compartments ; outer and inner compartments.

➨ The outer membrane forms continuous limiting boundary of the organelle.

➨ The inner membrane forms a number of folds called the cristae towards the matrix.

➨ They have their own DNA and ribosomes.

➨ It produces energy in the form of ATP in aerobic respiration.
