The mitochondria are spherical, rod shaped thread like bodies. These are many double-walled bags with their inner walls produced in finger like process projecting inwards called cristae.

Mitochondria are the sites where cell respiration opposite to release energy.

The energy is stored in the form of an energy is compound ATP(adenosine triphosphate) and is used in various metabolic functions of the cell, and in turn, of the body.

some people call the mitochondria as "Power House Of the cell"
