Mitochondria are known as the powerhouses of the cell. They are organelles that act like a digestive system which takes in nutrients, breaks them down, and creates energy rich molecules for the cell. The biochemical processes of the cell are known as cellular respiration.

Mitochondria is the power house of cell as it is the location of Respiration. Mitochondria is also called semi autonomous as it has its own DNA(Deoxyribonucleic acid). This is surrounded by double membrane covering. These produce energy in the form of ATP( Adnosine Triphosphate).
