mitochondrion is a double membrane bound organelle found in most eukaryotic organisms. some cells in some multicellular organisms may however lack them. mitochondria are commonly between 0.75 and 3 micrometre in diameter but vary considerably in size and structure unless specifically stained, they are not visible. mitochondria are involved in other tasks, such as signaling, cellular differentiation, and cell death as well as maintaining control of the cell cycle and cell growth.
components of a typical mitochondrion.........
1) outer membrane
1.1 porin
2) intermembrane space
2.1 intracristal space
2.2 peripheral space
3) lamella
3.11 under boundary membrane
3.12 Cristal membrane
3.2 matrix
3.3 cristae
4) mitochondrial DNA
5) matrix granule
6) ribosome
7) ATP synthase
