<u><i>Mixed cropping is the practise of cultivating two or more crops simultaneously on the same piece of land.<i><u>

It occupies the field for the complete growing season.

For example :

Wheat + Gram , Wheat + Mustard

This reduces risk and gives some insurance against the failure of one of the crops.

Mixed Cropping:

  • Mixed cropping is defined as the process by which different crops are cultivated together or one after another to maintain soil fertility and a steady production rate.
  • A particular type of crop requires a particular type of nutrients from the soil in larger quantities. Continuous plantation of these crops leads to the deficiency of these nutrients.
  • So, planting these crops with another keeps a steady nutritional rate which declines another type of nutrients but replenishes the other type. Thus, this type of plantation leads to a good amount of production with least use of fertilizers.
