The nucleic acid takes over thenormal operation of the host cell and produces multiple copies of the virus's protein coat and nucleic acid.

It is of two main types: Phagic and Pinocytic
(a)
⚫Only nucleic acid of virus enters the host cell. It is further of two types:
(i) Occurs in virulent phages.
⚫ bacteriophages.
(ii) Occurs in temperature viruses.
⚫ λ phage.
(b)
⚫It is found in viruses like TMV, HIV, Hepatitis B etc., in which whole of virus particle enters host cell except envelope (if present).
