Atomic theory basically states that matter is made up of discrete units called atoms where atomic radii where measured in the Angstrom level. The standard model of the atom is the electron cloud model. Which essentially states that's the nucleus is composed of neutrons and protons of course and instead of this image of electons in designated paths around the nucleus, they are govenred by what's called the electron cloud. The electron cloud is essentially where you will have the highest probability of an electron in some orbital given by its wave function. Its bases on probability.
