A state is a compulsory political organization with a centralized government that maintains a monopoly of the legitimate use of force within a certain geographical territory. ... Four essential features: 

1) Population,Territory, Sovereignty, and Government.
2) The nature of a state's population affects its stability.

3) States where the populationshares a general political and social consensus, or agreement about basic beliefs, have the most stable governments.
