What is mole fraction. 46 gm of ethyl alcohol is dissolved in 90 gm of water. Calculate mole fraction of water and ethyl alcohol.

no. of moles of H₂O in solution =  90 g /18 g  = 5 mole

total  no. of moles in solution = 1 + 5 = 6

Mole fraction of ethyl alcohol =  \frac{no of mole of ethyl alcohol}{total number of mole } =\frac{1}{6} =0.167= 0.5

no of mole of water=1-nomber of mole of ethyl alcohol

                                =1-0.167=0.833
