Momentum has magnitude as well as direction it's directions is the same as that of velocity in SI system the unit of momentum is is kg m/s

Momentum:-

Momentum is the force in which a body possesses due to the combined effect of mass and velocity.

In other words, Momentum is defined as the product of mass and velocity.

Second Law of Motion:-

The rate of change in Momentum is directly proportional to the applied unbalanced force and takes place in the same direction in which the force acts.

Mathematical Expression of Newton's Second Law of Motion:-

Let a body of mass 'm' at point A, such that its initial velocity is 'u'. Let the body be acted upon by a force 'F' for time 't' seconds, Such that at B, its final velocity becomes 'v'. Let 'a' be the acceleration of the body during the change in Velocity.

Initial momentum of body at A = mu

Final Momentum of body at B = mv

∴ Rate of change in momentum = mv-mu/t

⇒ m(v-u)/t

⇒ ma (∵ a= v-u/t)

By Newton's second law of Motion

Rate of change in momentum is ∞ F

F ∞ ma

F = K . ma

F = ma ( ∴ K is the constant)

Hence, Force is the product of Mass and Acceleration.
