Answer:

In SI units, if the mass is in kilograms and the velocity is in meters per second then the momentum is in kilogram meters per second (kg⋅m/s). In cgs units, if the mass is in grams and the velocity in centimeters per second, then the momentum is in gram centimeters per second (g⋅cm/s).

Question:

What is momentum? write the units of this amount in SL and CGS systems.

Answer:

Momentum:

It is the quality of motion which has ability to keep increase the force to move faster. Momentum is the variable of mass and velocity.

p=mv

Where, p= Momentum.

            m= Mass.

            v= Velocity.

Mass is measured in kg and velocity in ms-1, therefore, the SI unit of momentum will be kgm/s(-¹).

In the CGS system, the mass is in grams and the velocity in centimeters per second, therefore the unit of momentum will be gram-centimeters per second (g⋅cm/s).
