Monsoon is derived from the Arabic word "mausim " meaning "season ".
Monsoon refers to the seasonal reversal of wind direction during the year.
During winter, their is low pressure on the seas and high pressure on the Indian subcontinent. North East Trade winds blow from land to sea.
During summer the condition gets reversed. South West monsoon winds blow from sea to land bringing in moisture. This gives rise to monsoon.
