Rabindranath Tagore's "The Palm Tree" is an imaginative poem in which he shows the feelings and aspirations of a palm tree. Tagore maintains the soothing tone in the poem to build up the flow in the poem.

The atmosphere/mood of the poem is sentimental as the poet adds a lot feelings from the palm tree. The poet is trying to add a relaxing effect to the poem as well. He shows his wishes and hopes in the poem, to deliver the message that even the finest of the things have hopes and wishes.

Answer:

The mood or atmosphere of the poem has a mixture of different feelings like happiness, sadness, defiant, thoughtful, triumphant, etc. These feelings were because of:-

1. It was happy because the palm tree thinks that he is taller than all the other trees and it feels it flies beneath the stars using it's fronds as wings.

2.It feels sad because, in the end, the palm tree realises that it can't fly freely like a bird even if he is taller than all the other trees.

3.It sounds defiant because he praises himself for being the tallest among all the other surrounding trees.

4.It feels thoughtful because the tree finally realises after a long time that it won't be able to fly in the sky. Then, it feels that it can be happy by appreciating the existence of it's mother, Mother Earth.

5. It sounds triumphant because when it can move freely because of the wind and because of it's height, he can see past the other trees.
