The quality that you should have is TALENT . Without talent your marks will not matter you must have the knowledge to do your work efficiently.

b'coz i will pass on some advice i got when i was applying to grad school. if you manage to find a research problem that leads to a steller thesis it does not matter where you did find p.hd. on the other hand if you have only mediocre thesis, the branding your school will take you to a descent job.
finally you might think that you know your area of interest, but the truth of the matter is that you don't period to choose a school gives you the flexibility to choose your advisor. after
you zero in your area of interest. this would mean that there should be a large number of factually at the institution who work on the overall area e.g system, networking, security, theory etc.
