A motherboard is the PCB printed circuit board found inside a PC desktop box or a Laptop or a microcomputer. The motherboard contains the CPU Integrated Chip interconnected with various peripherals and communication devices through the data bus and address bus.

The motherboard has Input Output ports for connecting devices like Keyboard, audio, CDROM, Disk, mouse etc.  It has ports for USB devices too. The motherboard has some slots too for inserting additional RAM memory boards.

The motherboard contains an EPROM containing instructions to load the operating system when power is switched on. The motherboard is powered by a small battery too.
