Jack created the role of mother in order to encourage Jo hate Clare, her mother. Since he did not like his own wife, he wanted Jo to do the same. So he intentionally created skunk’s mother’s negative role. He intentionally created the scene in which the mother skunk hit the wizard for changing skunk’s bad smell into roses’ smell. Jo did not like skunk’s mother’s silly act of hitting the wizard and getting her son’s smell changed into bad smell again. Jack succeeded in his plan of influencing Jo’s perception about mothers in general.

The Skunk’s mother’s role is that of a loving mother who tries to teach her son to be confident and proud of how he is. The typical smell of the skunk repelled his friends and the young skunk therefore, wanted to get rid of it. But his mother did not approve of it and told him to change it back. Her role further establishes the value of taking pride in oneself and not change according to people’s opinion
